Well, here we are. No hiding now (as us creative types are inclined to do)!
Myself (Kelly Archer) and my husband, Steve Terry, are artists in several mediums. Steve's expertise lies in wood. He makes amazing acoustic guitars which is just one of his many talents. He can often be found helping me in my workshop (the posh name for my messy shed) and saves my sanity on a daily basis.
I paint portraits of wildlife and beloved pets in watercolour and pencil and create silver and enamelled jewellery. I also hand sew wedding clutch bags and create pet beds amongst other things. I also adore gardening and my biggest love of all is animals. The latter two subjects are where I draw all my inspiration. Steve says I spread myself too thinly and he's probably right!
The rest of the team are my animal family of rescued critters and our lives wouldn't be the same without them (the house would be a lot cleaner though!).
I really hope you like what you see here. Any comments? Please feel free to contact us!
MEET THE TEAM
CRAZY ANIMAL LADY
Creator of many things, many of which never get finished. Most likely to be found on my hands and knees in the garden.
LOVES: food; shiny things.
HATES: being cold.
FUTURE PREDICTION: will end up with 15 cats.
One of three brothers, Kynren is still not thoroughly convinced that I am really just an oversized degu and eyes me up furtively from a discreet distance. The shyest and the only one of the brothers who still has all of his his tail! Likes to bounce on Saxon's old noisy wheel when he can get a look in.
LOVES: pretending he is invisible.
Chief wood butcher (his words, not mine!) and counsellor. Puts up with me and my rabble of unruly critters. Creates fabulous acoustic guitars. If you can think of something in wood, he can make it.
LOVES: tools; motorbikes.
HATES: tools being out of place; motorbike being out of petrol.
Old guy Saxon loves to play 'tag' and bouncing around on an old noisy wheel I haven't got the heart to throw out. Looking after his three new 'grandkids' is proving tiring!
LOVES: hoarding; talking to himself; pumpkin seeds; chewing the skirting boards; making the bed; pretending to be a guinea pig.
Huge, partially deaf, cross-eyed boom box who has the swagger of one who knows that no human can resist him!
LOVES: vegetarian ham; warm laps; Mr Rainbow.
HATES: being ignored.
Narcoleptic rodent whose fur is perhaps the softest known element in the universe.
LOVES: sleeping; her wheel.
STRIKES A POSE
Nimbus knows how to work the floor when she wants to and has Hector eating from her little pink paws.
DESTROYER OF WORLDS
Atlas bounces off the walls. Learned how to climb up the back of six foot bookshelves and push soft toys off the top, then taught his brothers how to do it.
LOVES: creating general havoc.
EATS, POOPS AND LEAVES
Hector has some serious ear tufts going on due to his outrageously frizzy fur. He is generally always randy and follows his ladies around like a miniature lap dog.
VIVE LA TRICOLOR!
It always amazes me how guinea pigs have such a range of colours and patterns in their coats, and Frenchie is no exception.
Frenchie is a large lady who definitely ate all the pies! She is our resident bulldozer.
One of the three young goos, Nestor likes to perch and watch what's going on. Likes to trick me into thinking he's Atlas so he gets the blame for everything naughty!
In 2012 I was incredibly excited to receive the 'Rheged Awad' award from the Lakes' Artists' Society for the best figurative painting by an artist under 35 years old for my cat portrait 'Geisha Girl' during the Society's Summer Exhibition in Grasmere, Cumbria,UK.
The Summer Exhibition usually runs throughout August each year at the Village Hall in Grasmere. For more information about the society, please click here.
